Team GB's Jessica Ennis was denied a personal 100m hurdles best at Manchester's Great CityGames due to a mix-up by the event's organisers.

The heptathlete recorded a time of 12.75 seconds, but the result did not stand because only nine of the ten hurdles were laid out on the track.

Ennis said: "I am so annoyed. I still had a good competitive race, but I've just not got the result I wanted. I can't believe that. It's a great event but that's a massive, massive mess-up."

A spokesperson for the Great CityGames organisers, Nova International, said that a thorough investigation will be launched to establish how the error occurred.

"We'll conduct a thorough investigation and find out what happened and why and by whom. It's a very unfortunate mistake, we're very unhappy about it," read a statement from Nova.

Ennis, who edged out Dawn Harper to claim first place, beat her previous record by 0.04 seconds.
