Manchester United winger Nani has accused Portugal teammate Cristiano Ronaldo of putting himself before his country following their Euro 2012 semi-final penalty shoot-out loss to Spain.
Nani has taken issue with Ronaldo’s claim that it was the decision of the manager, Paul Bento, as to the player order at the spot-kick stage.
Instead, the United ace believes his countryman wanted the glory of firing home the winning penalty.
However, instead, events conspired against him as Bruno Alves, a centre-back, fired against the crossbar, allowing Spain to progress and steal Ronaldo’s thunder.
Nani said: “Cristiano Ronaldo demanded the last penalty,' the winger said. 'I said to the coach I would accept any order.
'”t didn't seem to be a problem to me, because penalty shoot-outs are all about luck and we did not deserve to lose like that.”
