Manchester United reportedly very close to landing Borussia Dortmund playmaker Shinji Kagawa.

talkSPORT says that reports in Germany claim the deal is at the fine detail stage.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been on the hunt for a replacement for veteran Paul Scholes for some time and sees the Japan international as the answer.

The 23-year-old decision not to extend his contract at Dortmund sparked immediate interest from across Europe.

German magazine Kicker has revealed that United are closing in on a £12 million deal, which could rise to £17.5 million depending on his performance.

Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc has confirmed that the agreement with United is almost complete.

He said: "Some details are still to be confirmed."
