Ipswich Town are set to sign Manchester United goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak.

The Polish international is deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford, and will be allowed to leave on a free transfer when his contract expires in the summer.

The 30-year-old is currently on loan at Watford . Before then he made 61 first team appearances for United following a £2 million move from West Brom five years ago.

Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed earlier this year that Kuszczak, who has fallen down the Old Trafford pecking order, would be allowed to leave.

The United boss said: “Tomasz's contract is up in the summer and he doesn't want to sign another.”

Ipswich boss Paul Jewell is keen to sign an experienced No 1 after using four different keepers – Arran Lee-Barrett, Richard Wright and on-loan pair David Stockdale and Alex McCarthy – this season.
