Manchester United have declined to comment on reports that authorities in Portugal are investigating missing money from the deal that took Bébé from Vitoria Guimaraes to Old Trafford two years ago.
The Premier League club said at the time that none of the £7 million transfer fee had been paid directly to an agent.
United have said they will only involve themselves once an accusation has been levelled at the club.
An Old Trafford spokesman said: "There is no need to comment at this stage because no one is alleging any wrongdoing by us.”
Portuguese police believe up to £3 million of the money United paid out cannot now be accounted for, and are investigating Vitoria claims that roughly that amount went to the player's agent Jorges Mendes.
There is no suggestion at this stage of any actual illegality on United's behalf.
