Manchester City midfielder Gareth Barry has hailed their Premier League winning season as his ‘best ever’.
City recorded their first ever Premier League title in dramatic fashion as two injury time goals from Edin Dzeko and Sergio Aguero claimed a 3-2 victory of QPR at the Etihad Stadium on the final day of the campaign.
Aguero’s winner with virtually the last kick of the game saw City win the title on goal difference ahead of their fierce local rivals Manchester United.
It was an astonishing climax to a season that saw the former Aston Villa man play 33 of the 38 league games for City, and the England international has been elated with the campaign.
‘It's definitely been my best season ever,’ said Barry.
‘I've been happy with my level of performance and I'm delighted with the way it's gone. This is the perfect club for me. The formation the manager likes to play, with me as one of two holding midfielders, suits me - even though I only scored one goal this season.’
Barry admits however that he may not feature as often next season, as manager Roberto Mancini looks to build on an already impressive squad this summer, although he hopes his future lies with City.
‘I don't expect to play every week but we'll be challenging for honours over the next few years and I can't ask for more than that at this stage.
‘What is important is that fans and team-mates have spoken highly of me. And the manager too - and he's the one that really matters - so that's encouraging.
‘I feel I can play on until my mid-30s. Hopefully, that will be at City.’ he added.
