Manchester City apologise to Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson

Manchester City have apologised to Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson after Carlos Tevez held up a sign reading ‘RIP Fergie’ at
City’s title winning parade around Manchester tonight.

Tevez held up the sign that was passed to him as he stood on the top deck of the open-top bus that was making its way through Manchester’s city centre.

A City spokesman said:

‘The creation of the tasteless material is in itself reprehensible and in accepting and brandishing it, Carlos has made a significant error of judgement.

‘The club wishes to express its sincerest apologies to Sir Alex Ferguson and Manchester United Football Club for any offence or distress caused.’

The former United striker has also issued an apology saying the emotional celebrations got the better of him.

‘I got carried away in the excitement of the moment and I certainly didn't mean any disrespect to Sir Alex Ferguson, who I admire as a man and a manager.’

The phrase is believed to stem from an interview Ferguson gave in 2009 when he declared ‘Not in my lifetime’ when asked if City could become the most dominant team in Manchester.
