Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has been named the Barclay’s Player of the Season.

Kompany led City to their first title win for 44-years and has been the club’s outstanding defender throughout the season.

The Belgium international lifted City’s first ever Premier League trophy yesterday after a dramatic 3-2 victory over QPR at the Etihad Stadium.

Injury time goals from Edin Dzeko and Sergio Aguero were enough to see off an obstinate QPR side, who played for half an hour with ten men after Joey Barton elbowed Carlos Tevez and then lashed out at Aguero after being shown the red card.

Kompany was instrumental in a defence that kept 17 clean sheets en route to the title and City’s goalkeeper, Joe Hart, was also recognised by winning the Golden Glove award.

Kompany also claimed the winning goal in City’s 1-0 win over Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium last month and his award is the first time a City played has been given the honour.
