Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini dedicates Premier League title win to fans

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has dedicated their Premier League title win to the supporters.

City claimed their first title for 44-years after overcoming QPR 3-2 in one of the most dramatic days in Premier League history.

Injury time goals from Edin Dzeko and Sergio Aguero cancelled out Jamie Mackie and Djibril Cisse’s efforts for Mark Hughes’ men after Pablo Zabaleta had put City in front in the first half.

With Manchester United’s 1-0 win at Sunderland finishing earlier than the game at the Etihad Stadium, Sir Alex Ferguson’s men were just two minutes from securing their 20th league title before Aguero’s winner.

And despite being nearly missing out on the title, Mancini claimed the fans maintained their belief and then dedicated the title to them.

‘The supporters have never lost faith or patience - even in the last five minutes today,’ said the Italian.

‘We are so pleased that this season, we have delivered some history for them. It has been 44 years since this club last had their hands on the title and everyone at City knows that is too long. We did it the hard way but I am told that is the City way.

‘This is a great day for City and most of all for the supporters. Every week the ground is full and the noise for the team is huge. I have said many times this season that no one should underestimate the help that players get from having a crowd supporting them in this way. It drives us on when things are possible not going so well.’

Mancini has now won the FA Cup and the Premier League during his time at City and he added that he hoped the title victory would signal the start of a sustained period of domination for the blue half of Manchester.

‘Hopefully this will be just the start of days like this. We set out to make history and that is what we have done.’

Mancini also reserved some praise for United, who pushed their local rivals every step of the way in what was widely hailed one of the most exciting Premier League seasons ever.

‘Manchester United is a great club and a great opponent and to have come out on top in a fight for the title with them is fantastic.’
