Yaya Toure has vowed to ‘make history’ with Manchester City.

The midfielder scored both goals in the 2-0 win at Newcastle on Sunday which left City within touching distance of their first Premier League trophy.

City head into the final weekend of the season level on points with fierce local rivals Manchester United, but have a superior goal difference of plus eight.

Victory at home to QPR this Sunday will see Roberto Mancini’s men crowned Premier League Champions for the first time and it would e City’s first league title for 44 years, and Toure says the potential success is the reason he joined the club back in 2010.

‘We have one more game to make history for this club and that is what I came here from Barcelona to achieve,’ said the Ivorian.

‘It is unbelievable for the fans, I have won some big trophies in my career but it is never easy to deliver the title after a long time. It is not over yet but we are happy. We are in good form, we are confident and we have an excellent group of players.

‘Roberto Mancini took me to one side before the game and told me I would play a key part and hopefully that is what I did.’

Toure is not celebrating just yet however, and has warned his team to keep their focus ahead of Sunday’s clash with QPR.

Rangers, who are managed by former City boss Mark Hughes, are involved in a tense relegation scrap and Toure is acutely aware of the danger they possess to City’s title push.

‘I think we are in a great position but we have to keep working hard. QPR are fighting for their lives and will not come to the Etihad Stadium to lose.’
