Manchester City star David Silva has stated Monday night’s 1-0 win over Manchester United could be the biggest of his career – if City can clinch their first Premier League title.
Vincent Kompany’s header was enough to give City the win over their fierce local rivals and take them top of the Premier League on goal difference.
Roberto Mancini’s side are now favourites to win the league and Silva has spoken of the enormity of the victory in a game that was billed as the biggest Manchester derby of all time.
‘If we end up winning the title, Monday’s win could be the most important win of my club career,’ said the Spaniard.
‘We knew we had to win on Monday. Mentally we were ready to win it. We did that and now we have to continue concentrating on the job.’
Silva has been in superb form for City this season and has called on his side to continue their own good form and clinch their first title for 44 years.
‘The Newcastle game is like a final for us now. We have to win it. In the dressing room after the game you could see the boss was delighted. He told us that we all had played a great match. But he also reminded us that we must concentrate on next Sunday.’
The former Valencia man also admitted that he hopes any potential Premier League win will lead to a sustained period of success for City.
‘If we can win the Premier League, we hope it can open the door for us to win many more trophies. Last year we won the FA Cup and qualified for the Champions League.’
