Football and Rock'n'Roll royalty were both in attendance at the Etihad Stadium last night as Liam Gallagher and Diego Maradona witnessed Manchester City's 1-0 win over rivals Manchester United.

Vincent Kompany’s header gave City the points that took them top on goal difference and the former Oasis and current Beady Eye front-man was the first in the line to start the City celebrations.

After being pictured roaring along to The Beatles’ Hey Jude as it sounded out across the Etihad at full-time, the Wonderwall singer declared of Mancini:

‘He’s nearly as cool as me.’

Gallagher later gate-crashed the post-match press conference in a bid to meet Mancini and admitted he maybe had too much to drink after watching his beloved City complete a league double over their fierce local rivals.

‘I couldn’t really see him. I was blinded by the lights. I must have been on the whisky too much.’

Argentina legend Maradona was also caught on TV enjoying the celebrations after cheering on his son-in-law, City striker Sergio Aguero and Gallagher later posted a picture on his Twitter account with the caption:

‘Maradona shakes the hand of God.’

City can now wrap up their first title for 44 years with a victory over Newcastle on Sunday.
