Manchester City owner hints at Mancini safety

Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour has eased any pressure on manager Roberto Mancini by claiming he is happy with the Italian’s performance.

City are just three points behind leaders Manchester United and the pair meet on Monday night at the Etihad Stadium in what is being billed as the biggest Manchester derby of all time.

A win would see the Blue go level on points with Sir Alex Ferguson’s men but give them an advantage over United due to a superior goal difference.

However, City’s Abu-Dhabi based owner has hinted that Mancini will remain at the helm whether or not he is successful in ending a 44-year wait for the title.

‘The difference is three points and we do have a chance,’ said Sheikh Mansour.

‘But whatever happens and even if we don't win I am very happy and satisfied with the players, the team and the management.’

United have dropped five points from their last three games, while City have taken maximum points and racked up an impressive 12 goals.
And Sheikh Mansour was quick to highlight their recent good form.

‘They have performed very well and have improved in their last few matches.’

It is the second public vote of confidence Mancini has received this season.

After their exit at the group stages of the Champions League, Sheikh Mansour said:

‘We are satisfied with the progress that is being made - the success and development at this level of football but we must also continue to have patience.

‘Sometimes I meet City supporters who criticise the work of the manager Roberto Mancini. In my opinion we are on the right path.’
