Manchester City set to face injury-hit Villarreal side on Wednesday

Manchester City will face a somewhat depleted Villarreal side on Wednesday night.

While Roberto Mancini boasts a fully fit squad ahead of the corresponding Champions League fixture at El Madrigal, the Spaniards have already reported a number of casualties.

Defender Cristian Zapata faces up to five weeks on the sidelines after spraining ligaments in his right knee during 2-0 win over Rayo Vallacano at the weekend.

Cani also faces around six weeks out of action with a knee injury while striker Marco Ruben foots the injury bill with an adductor injury which could sideline him for a fortnight.

Villarreal are hoping that they can call on Spain's Euro 2008-winning midfielder Marco Senna after he was rested as a precautionary measure due to feeling a slight twince in his hamstring.

Striker Javier Camunas is also a doubt for the visit of the Citizens, with a leg injury picked up against Rayo, which has left manager Juan Carlos Garrido with a deep selection headache.

Fellow hit man Giuseppe Rossi faces six months out with a knee injury sustained against Real Madrid last week while Nilmar is recovering from a recently removed knee cyst.

Villarreal's Champions League campaign has fast become a lost cause with defeats in all three of their Group A games leaving them rooted to the foot of the table.

Their win over Rayo at the weekend was only their second and helped lift them out of La Liga's relegation zone into 13th place, unlike their opponents who top the Premier League.
