Mustapha Riga in Bolton Wanderers contract termination impasse

Bolton Wanderers have been unable to terminate the contract of striker Mustapha Riga.

Bolton News claims the Dutch forward has rejected the club's offer to terminate his contract at the Reebok Stadium.

Riga has started only three times in more than two years since arriving from Spanish club Levante.

He was excluded from the Premier League 24-man squad boss Owen Coyle drew up in midweek and he was offered for sale in the summer transfer window.

However, there were no takers so the club hoped to agree a termination deal but it seems it could not be done before the transfer deadline on Tuesday.

Riga is reported to be earning £1 million a year and has a season left to run on his current deal.

It is understood he has been given the option to train with the club until the next transfer window opens in January but will not now be able to compete at first-team level.
