The iconic Olympic Torch has passed through Bolton on its way to London 2012.

Hundreds took to the steps of the Town Hall this morning to see the flame make its way out through Horwich towards Chorley.

Bolton swimmers Antony Evitts and Martyn Woodroffe were among those chosen to help the Torch complete its 70-day journey across Britain.

To commemorate the procession, Bolton College opened its doors to the local community for an afternoon of festivities and celebration.

Eddie Birchall, a voluntary youth worker at the college, was also chosen to be a Torchbearer in recognition of his services to the local community.

Marie Gilluley, principal of Bolton College, said: “We were so honoured to hear that the Olympic Torch would be passing right by the college and that one of our community centre volunteers – Eddie Birchall - would also be a Torchbearer.

"We felt inspired to do something extra special and the whole team of students and staff have come together to create a spectacular day."

The Torch's journey will end at the Olympic Stadium on July 27th, when it will light the cauldron during the opening ceremony at London 2012.
