Skincare experts issue warning over Avatar Halloween trend

Avatar wannabes are expected to paint the town blue with the alien trend dominating this year's Halloween fancy dress fashion.

But a top skincare authority have issued a health warning to blue bodied party-goers heading out on the 31st.

Chris Flower from skin-products watchdog, the Cosmetics, Toiletries and Perfurmery Association said severe reactions to the wrong kind of make up can have fatal consequences.

He said: "It's important to properly check the product out before using it to cover your skin.

"Under the cosmetics directive, products have to be safe when used in normal and anticipated circumstances.

"But there are always going to be exceptions and individuals will react differently to a product, so it's important to read the instructions.

"People who have latex allergies, or even those who are generally suseptable to allergies should take real care.

"Those who suffer from a latex allergy will normally know of it from those times when they've put on gloves, or apply plasters.

"But if you didn't know you were allergic to a paint and then covered your body in it, the implications could be very serious indeed.

"Like with peanut allergies, the reaction can take hold fast, and they can be fatal."

American style halloween costumes are catching on in the UK with the traditional spooks less common on the trick or treat run.

And imitations of the alien Na'vi race from James Cameron's sci-fi blockbuster are tipped to be the top costume for Halloween 2010 with tubs of blue body paint flying of the shelves.

Rosalie Watkinson from PartyTimeDirect.com said punters are spending more money than ever on emulating Hollywood heroes at Halloween.

She said: "We've sold tons of body paint in the build up to Halloween, it looks like people are leaving behind ghosts, witches and vampires.

"We've had everything from High Scool Musical through to Toy Story, its a far cry from people cutting two holes in a bed sheet.

"I've never seen a Halloween like it, there's definatley more money being spent and more effort being made."

With thousands of expected blue revellers, Flower added that the popularity of body paint was no bad thing, but that, unlike with fancy dress clothing there are a few more considerations to take into account.

"It just takes a minute to make sure you're using the right kind of paint, then you can get on with having a good night.

"I'd advise washing it off before you get in bed though, more for the sake of your sheets than anything else."
