Members of Timperley Community Centre Slimming World group celebrated their Woman of the Year competition as nominees lost 241lbs between them – the equivalent to Arnold Schwarzenegger’s weight when he was body building, plus the average household cat!

The members of the Wednesday evening weigh loss group each nominated a lady who had supported and inspired them on their journey, resulting in 10 nominees for the coveted award.

Slimming World Consultant, Jo Harrington, commented: “I am so proud of these gorgeous nominees, and this evening has been a fantastic chance to recognise the changes that they have made, not only to their own lives, but to the lives of other people around them.

“When there are so many faddy ‘diets’ around at the moment, it is more important than ever to help people understand that they don’t have to starve themselves or sacrifice their favourite treats to live a healthier lifestyle & lose weight.

“Our Group’s winner this year was Anne Massicks and every member of the group agrees that she has helped them every week, with a recipe idea, a warm smile, heaps of encouragement and belief in them when they felt down.

“This is what makes Slimming World work - the support my members give and receive in group is like nothing they have ever experienced before. They are all winners as far as I’m concerned!”

Timperley’s Woman of the Year, Anne Massicks, said: “It was such an honour just to be nominated, I’m thrilled to have won!

“We have had tears and laughter in group tonight, everyone’s story was so moving and amazing.

“It is such a fun and friendly group, we have all made new friends and the best part is that we are all losing weight without being hungry, by simply making healthier choices, filling up on unlimited portions of Slimming World’s ‘Free Foods’ and helping each other to change the way we think and feel about food.

“IMAGE therapy (the Group session of Slimming World) really gives us all a chance to get to know each other and realise that we are not alone when we beat ourselves up or feel bad about our eating habits.

“Taking that loneliness and guilt out of eating has changed my life, and I know that I am going to be reach my target weight by Christmas and then stay at a healthy weight for the rest of my life with the support of these lovely ladies – and gents!”

Jo Harrington added: “If anyone spots Arnie wandering around the village, please let him know that he ‘won’t be back’ – we’ve booted him and out of our group for ever!”
