Thieves on a motorbike smashed through the window of a pawn brokers during a robbery in Greater Manchester.

Police were called to Mays jewellers, Mather Way, Salford precinct at around 3.10pm on Monday 20th August following reports of a robbery.

Two men rode through the precinct on a red and white high-powered motorcycle from the direction of Pendleton Way. When they stopped outside the jewellers, one dismounted and took a sledgehammer to a display window.

He pulled the ruptured glass out of its frame and grabbed jewellery from display before speeding off with his accomplice.

Police describe the first man as 5ft 4in tall and of slim build. He wore a black crash helmet, a light grey adidas jacket with darker hood and shoulders with three stripes down the arms, white gloves, black trousers, and black trainers with white laces.

The second man wore a black crash helmet, a black jacket, black trousers and grey trainers.

Detective Constable Mark Cole from Salford Volume Crime Team, said: "This was a traumatic experience for the members of staff who were inside the shop when the window was smashed.

"I would appeal to anyone who either saw these thieves riding up to the bank or perhaps saw them ride off at high speed or erratically at about the time of the robbery.

"It was a busy afternoon in the precinct, there were lots of people who will have witnessed this robbery. If anyone does have information, please call us."

Anyone with information should call Salford CID on 0161 856 5250 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
