A man from Greater Manchester has been charged with murder following the death of a two-year-old girl in Tameside.

Ben Raftery, 21, from Gorton will appear at Tameside Magistrates’ Court today to face a murder charge.

Police were called by the ambulance service to Elizabeth Street in Ashton-under-Lyne shortly before 12.45am on 10th March following reports that a toddler had sustained a serious injury.

Two-year-old Roxie Jo-Anne Archer was rushed to hospital with a severe head wound, but sadly passed away the following evening.

A post-mortem examination confirmed that the child's death was a direct result of the head wound.
