Police arrested two 15-year-old boys after up to 30 wraps of drugs were seized in Bury.

Officers were called to the McDonald's restaurant at the Rock at about 10.15am yesterday.

They were alerted by local authority-run CCTV operators based in Mill Gate who saw the two 15-year-old boys acting suspiciously.

The drugs were found on the boys after officers from the Bury East Neighbourhood team carried out a drugs search.

The drugs have been sent off for forensic recovery, but it is believed they are some form of Class A drugs, possibly heroin.

A large amount of cash and three mobile phones were also seized. The teenagers have been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Inspector Charlotte Cadden said: "It is extremely saddening to see such young men caught red-handed with so many drugs. We still need time to conduct a thorough investigation into exactly what these drugs are and where they came from, but the mere fact two young teenagers were found in possession of what we believe may be heroin is quite shocking.

"Officers from the Bury East Neighbourhood team attended within minutes and as a result of that swift and decisive action we were able to seize the drugs and arrest the two teenagers.

"Drugs are a blight on our community and whether you are 15 or 50, dealing drugs is a very serious offence. We will continue to work closely with all our partner agencies and when we receive intelligence of possible drug dealing, we will take action."

Anyone with information about drugs should call police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
