Family pay tribute to victim of fatal collision in Greater Manchester

The victim of a fatal traffic collision in Greater Manchester has received a heartfelt tribute from his family.

Robert Foy died in hospital on 3rd May after being hit by a Nissan Almera at Saddle Junction on the A49, near to the Asda store.

Foy's family have launched an appeal for witnesses of the collision to come forward, and paid tribute to the deceased.

"Our precious husband, father and grandfather Robert Robertson Cook Foy was sadly taken from us on Friday 3 August at 17.36, crossing between ASDA and SCS on Ormskirk Road, SCS being his place of work.

"We are appealing for anyone who was there and may have witnessed anything, no matter how little the detail is, to come forward," they said in a statement.

"Robert has left behind a devastated family who needs answers to enable us to grieve properly. Robert was a family man who is going to be missed beyond belief, so please come forward.

"We know that there was a Wigan vs Hull rugby league match on that evening, so if any supporter attended this match and knows any minor detail, please come forward, please we need closure."

Police Sergeant Danny Byrne, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: "Our sympathies are with Robert’s family at this tragic time as they try to come to terms with the loss of their loved one.

“An investigation is ongoing into the circumstances surrounding this collision, and I am anxious to hear from anyone who saw the incident. In particular, the driver or passengers of a red vehicle, which I believe was travelling along the same road and may have witnessed it."
