A man from Greater Manchester was killed and two others were seriously injured in a collision involving three motorbikes.

The horror crash occurred at around 11.25pm on Sunday 29th July at the junction of Fourmarts Road and Hillridge Road in Wigan.

A yellow Honda motorbike ploughed in a black Yamaha, which then struck a grey Yamaha that was parked up at the side of the road.

All three riders were thrown from their vehicles on impact and rushed to hospital. Ryan Smith, 18, of the Golborne in Wigan, died from his injuries soon after.

Smith's family said in tribute: “Ryan was a cherished and much loved son to Neville and Rose, a beautiful brother to Lee, Janine and Gareth, and a beloved boyfriend to Emma.

“He was also a heroic uncle to Daniel, Bradley, Declan, Matthew and Jessica and was adored by many.

“You are sadly gone, but will not be forgotten as you are always in our hearts. Sleep tight our angel, we love you always.”

A 17-year-old boy, who suffered leg and neck injuries in the crash, has now been dischared from hospital. A 19-year-old woman remains in a critical condition with multiple injuries.

Sergeant Danny Byrne from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “Our sympathies are with Ryan’s family at this tragic time, as they try to come to terms with the loss of their loved one. Our thoughts are also with the families of the other two victims who were seriously injured during this incident.

“An investigation is ongoing into the circumstances surrounding this collision, and I am appealing for anyone who may have witnessed it or has any information to contact my officers at the Serious Collision Investigation Unit directly on 0161 856 4742.”
