Arsonist targets industrial estate in Greater Manchester

An arson attack on an industrial estate in Greater Manchester has caused an estimated half a million pounds in damage.

It happened at Omega Business Supplies, in a small industrial complex at 260 Stockport Road West in Bredbury, sometime after 12am on Wednesday 18th July.

The blaze caused considerable damage to the interior of the business, and even spread to the company next door.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service arrived on the scene and made the area safe, before working with police officers to establish the cause of the fire.

Detective Constable Matt Tarr said: "Having looked at the fire scene, it is clear to us that this fire was started deliberately.

"An initial assessment of the damage caused, as well as the loss of business brings the total monetary impact of this arson to somewhere between £250,000 to £500,000. I cannot understand how someone would want to needlessly cause so much damage.

"I urge any witnesses to come forward."

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 9987 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
