A man from Greater Manchester required staples in his head after being attacked with a baseball bat.

The incident occurred at the 32-year-old victim's address on Argyle Avenue, Whitefield in Bury, at about 1pm on Monday 9th July.

A masked man burst into his home and struck him about the head. His attacker made no demands and fled without stealing anything.

The victim required six staples to close a wound on the back of his head, and needed six stitches to a fingers on his right hand. He also suffered bruising.

Police describe the offender as black and wearing a balaclava. A appeal for witnesses has been lodged.

Detective Constable Antony Hough, of Bury CID, said: "This was a particularly nasty attack on a man during which he was struck numerous times with a baseball bat in what should have been the sanctity of his home.

"As a result, he has needed numerous stitches and staples to close his wounds and has been left covered in bruises.

"I am appealing to anyone who may have information about this attack to come forward. For example, this man was attacked in the early afternoon so I would ask that if anyone who was on the street at that time and saw a man hanging around the area, possibly wearing a balaclava, come forward.

"Any information will be treated in the strictest confidence."

Anyone with information should call Bury CID on 0161 856 8150 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
