Greater Manchester Police are appealing for witnesses of a horror collision in Chorlton-cum-Hardy.

The victim, Christopher Sinclair, was riding a motorcycle on Wilbraham Road towards Chorlton on 21st May at around 8.20pm, when he was hit by an oncoming Honda Civic CRX at the junction with Alexandra Road South.

The car was driving on the wrong side of the road, throwing Sinclair from his vehicle on impact, leaving him with a spine fractured in three places and numerous broken bones.

Sinclair is now in a wheel chair and is reliant on painkillers. It is unknown whether he will ever walk again. He is blind in one eye, his speech has been affected, and he no longer recognises his friends.

It is believed that the Honda Civic was racing with a silver Mini, which failed to stop. Police are attempting to track down the driver of the Mini, and have released CCTV stills of the vehicle.

The Mini is described as silver with a distinctive black Union Flag on the roof, two thick black parallel stripes on the bonnet and black wing mirrors.

Police Sergeant Lee Westhead from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: "This is one of the worst examples of dangerous driving I have encountered. The driver of the mini showed total disregard for other members of the public and left Christopher lying in the road with life threatening injuries.

“The car is very distinctive. It is silver coloured with a black Union Jack flag on the roof, two thick black parallel stripes on the bonnet and black wing mirrors. It was seen to travel down Manchester Road, onto Barlow Moor Road, left onto Wilbraham Road and then towards Princess Road.

“The driver knows who they are and my team will continue our investigation to identify them. I would appeal to the community to come forward and assist police in identifying this driver and recovering the car.

“Christopher's family deserve answers and it is important we remove the offender from the road before they hurt anyone else.

“Do you know who was driving the Mini? Have you seen the car? Has a neighbour, friend or family member disposed of a similar car recently? It is unlikely the vehicle was damaged so please consider any car that matches the description.

“I would also appeal directly to the driver of the Mini. This is not going to go away and we will use every tool available to us to find you.”

Anyone with information should phone the Serious Collision Investigation Unit bon 0161 856 4741 or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Nikash Sultan, 19, who was behind the wheel of the Honda Civic, was charged with dangerous driving and appeared before Manchester City Magistrates on 29th June.

A 21-year-old man arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice was released without charge.
