A man has been jailed for raping a woman in a secluded alleyway in Manchester as he pretended to escort her to a taxi.
Daniel Hadfield, 21, was with the victim in Rochdale town centre before escorting her to an Asda in the early hours of 29th September in order for her to get a taxi.
As they walked along an alleyway, Hadfield dragged the woman onto the ground and raped her.
The victim continued to walk with her attacker towards Asda after the ordeal out of fear, but once there was able to escape and raise an alarm.
Police were called and he was arrested later that day.
Hadfield, of no fixed address, was convicted of rape following a trial at Bolton Crown Court.
He was sentenced to six years in prison on Thursday, and ordered to sign the sex offenders' register for life.
Det Con Nick Price, of Rochdale CID, said: "The victim thought she was safe with Hadfield and trusted him to safely escort her to a place where she could get a taxi home.
"Instead, he has waited until he got her alone in an isolated ginnel and raped her.
"The victim has suffered immensely as a result of this attack and I hope she finds some comfort in the knowledge that Hadfield will spend many years behind bars where he can prove no threat to her or any other woman."
