Jailed: Manchester man who stole bag and shoes from horror crash victim

A Manchester man who snatched the shoes and bag of a woman who was killed in horrific traffic accident has been jailed.

Marc Kirvin, 46, of West Avenue, Altrincham, was dealt a four month sentence at Manchester City Magistrates’ Court after pleading guilty to theft by taking at an earlier hearing.

Kirvin was driving along Upper Brook Street on Thursday 29 March 2012 when he saw a handbag and pair of shoes on the street. He pulled over, took the woman’s possessions and drove away.

The items belonged to Sarwari Ashraf, 62, from the Longsight area, who had been killed moments earlier after being hit by a lorry.

Detective Constable Anna Rickards from Longsight CID, said: "The circumstances leading up to the theft are tragic, and although Kirvin may not have known who these items belonged to, he knew they belonged to someone.

“Kirvin had no regard for his victim or the consequences of his greed.”
