Detectives have launched an investigation into the death of a man whose body was found in a canal in the city centre.
Police were called to an area near Canal Street shortly before 1.50pm on 9th June following reports that a possible body had been sighted in a nearby canal.
Officers attended the scene and received the corpse with the aid of the fire department, but the man is yet to be identified.
The victim is described as white, of slim build, in his late 20s to early 30s, and about 5ft 8in tall.
He was wearing a grey V-neck T-shirt with white buttons, black jeans and white Lonsdale trainers with a dark blue stripe at the time of his death.
Detective Inspector Julian Flindle said: "We have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this man's death, but we need accounts from any possible witnesses, and we also need to urgently establish this man's identity.
"I would urge anyone who knows anything that could help us to call.
"My message to all of those who are familiar to and use this part of Manchester city centre is that we have launched a thorough inquiry which aims to find out what happened.
"I understand there may have been some discussion and rumour about this incident, and all I ask is for people to come forward and tell us if they know anything that could help."
Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 3543 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
