Energetic staff from Dulux Decorator Centres across the Greater Manchester region recently undertook a 182 mile static bike ride to raise money for the company’s charity of the year, Alzheimer’s Society.
Staff members from the Dulux Decorator Centres situated in Salford, Droylsden, Rochdale, Oldham and Radcliffe, pledged to cycle the distance from the company’s Altrincham head office, situated on Manchester Road, to its Slough head office in just one day, all to raise money for the worthwhile cause.
The dedicated group, who cycled for seven hours and 38 minutes, took it in turns to pedal away the miles on an exercise bike situated in the Salford store, raising over £700 for the charity.
Manchester territory store manager, Paul Benjamin, commented: “When we set the goal we agreed to start at 7am and cycle at an average speed of 30km per hour, allowing ourselves 10 hours to complete the challenge. On the day, we actually managed to boost our average speed to almost 40km per hour, finishing in just over seven and a half hours.
“It was an exhausting but exhilarating experience and we had a great deal of fun. There is certainly no future Chris Hoy in our team, but we are extremely proud of what we achieved and the amount of money we raised for Alzheimer’s Society. We would like to thank all of our customers and colleagues for being so generous with their donations.”
Jeremy Hughes, chief executive at Alzheimer’s Society, commented: “This was a wonderfully creative fundraising activity and a superb achievement in just a few short hours. I would like to thank everyone involved for their dedication and energy.
“The efforts of companies like Dulux Decorator Centres are vital to us continuing our work, championing the rights of people living with dementia and the millions of people who care for them.”
Dulux Decorator Centres has committed to a two year partnership with Alzheimer’s Society, and is aiming to raise at least £100K for the national dementia charity by April 2013. To date the company has raised over £40,000 through charitable activities carried out by staff members across the UK.
