A woman was beaten to the ground and raped in brutal sex attack in the Manchester area.

The 21-year-old victim was walking along Tanyard Brow, towards Hyde Road in Gorton at around 2:00pm on Saturday (May 12), when two men ran towards her.

She was punched in the face by one of the offenders, before being dragged into some nearby bushes and raped by his accomplice.

Police describe the rapist as small to medium in height, with a local accent. He wore a blue hooded top on the day of the attack.

The incident left his victim with a fractured cheekbone.

Detective Sergeant Rebecca Duggan from Longsight CID said: "When incidents like this happen, obviously it causes concern within the local community, However, I would like to reassure the public that we are doing all we can to find those responsible for this crime.

"Firstly, I would like to appeal for anyone who may have been walking in the Tanyard Brow, Hyde Road or Abbey Hey Lane and witnessed the attack or saw the men running off separately to contact us as soon as possible.

"Secondly, I would appeal to the occupants of the silver car to come forward. Did you see anything suspicious or witness the attack? If so, please get in touch."

Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 4245 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
