A 23-year-old man has been charged with murder following a fatal stabbing in Greater Manchester.

Daniel Walker, of Devon Road, Tyldesley in the Wigan area, was arrested in connection with the death of 23-year-old Stuart Smith earlier this week.

Smith was found with serious injuries following an incident after 3am on Monday 7th May. He died from his wounds in hospital.

Investigating officers believe that the victim sustained the injury during an altercation at a party in Devon Road.

He managed to stagger to his sister's home on nearby Rutland Road, but died at the Royal Bolton Hospital despite receiving emergency treatment.

A post-mortem revealed he died from a stab wound to the chest.

Smith's family said in tribute: “Stuart was a happy loving son, grandson, uncle, cousin, brother and friend. He will be missed by everyone.

“He always had a smile on his face and it is tragic he has been taken away from us at such a young age.

“Stuart was thoughtful, kind and always there for his nieces and nephews. He was a loveable character and he will be sadly missed by all his family and friends.”

Walker will appear before Wigan magistrates on 9th May.
