Stagecoach Manchester has launched an environmental initiative aimed at schools to coincide with Green Week, which runs between 21st and 27th May.
The bus operator has launched a contest in which pupils are invited to design eco-friendly posters to be displayed on the company's vehicles.
Entrants can design posters based on one of the following briefs: A bus shelter made out of recycled materials, A bus that recycles rain water,
A bus that helps pick up litter off the streets, or a A solar powered bus.
The five winning pupils will be invited to attend a special ceremony on Tuesday 22nd May, where their artwork will be unveiled.
They will each be presented with a £15 high street shopping voucher and have their designs displayed on three Stagecoach Manchester hybrid buses the along the 197 and 219 services.
Stagecoach Manchester’s Managing Director, Christopher Bowles said: “Following the launch of 19 eco-friendly hybrid buses this year and with another 40 planned to come into service in 2013, we take our commitment to being a ‘green’ company very seriously.
“Green Week aims to show our customers the lengths that we go to in order to help protect the local environment and minimise the impact of our operations.
“The schools competition is a fantastic way to educate local children about the importance of looking after the world we live in and one of the posters may even inspire a future bus design.”
Pupils who wish to take part in the contest should submit a poster via email to caroline.gibson@tangerinepr.com by 3pm on Friday 4th May. Winners will be notified by 5pm on Tuesday 8th May.
