A postman came to the aid of a 14-year-old robbery victim during his rounds in the Stockport area.
The teenager had his mobile phone stolen after being threatened on Whitehurst Road in Heaton Moor at around 10.30am on 21 April.
He was accosted by two youths after walking along Mauldeth Road, one of whom threatened to stab him unless he handed over his mobile, although no knife was produced.
The pair allowed the victim to leave shortly afterwards, but later caught up with him and lifted the phone from his pocket.
The victim flagged down a local postman, who gave chase to the offenders in his van after hearing details of the incident. He caught up with them on Clifton Road and managed to retrieve the handset, though the thieves fled.
Police describe the main offender as 16 or 17-years-old, about 6ft tall and of a medium build. He had short shaved brown hair, brown eyebrows and a pale complexion. He wore a grey cotton jacket or jumper with matching jogging trousers.
His accomplice was around 13-years-old, 5ft 3in tall and of a slim build with short shaved hair. He was wearing a black adidas tracksuit with blue or orange stripes down the legs and arms, black trainers and his socks were tucked into his trousers.
Police Constable Joel Massender, of the Stockport Volume Crime Team, said: "This young boy was picked on by a couple of bullies because he was on his own. Although no knife was seen, to even threaten to stab a young teenager is an utterly reprehensible act so we need to find the offenders as soon as possible.
"Luckily the postman came to this boy's aid and recovered his mobile phone, but we still need to identify who the two offenders were.
"I would appeal to anyone who witnessed this robbery or perhaps recognises the two offenders from the description. If you do have any information then we need to speak to you so please call us."
