Greater Manchester Police are appealing for witnesses of a serious assault in the Gorton area at around 1.10am on Sunday 18th March.

A 36-year-old man was found unconscious with severe head and facial injuries at the junction of Taplin Drive and Parkdale Avenue.

CCTV stills showed a man walking near the Tesco car park on Hyde Road at 00.40am, shortly before the attack.

The victim, who left the Waggon and Horses pub on Hyde Road shortly before midnight, was also seen in the vicinity of the supermarket around the same time.

He was garbed in a khaki long-sleeved top and a dark blue cardigan in the security footage, but both of these garments were missing when he was found unconscious and are yet to surface.

The man suffered several fractures to his skull, two broken eye sockets, a broken nose and a broken jaw. He also sustained severe lacerations to the back of his head and has suffered damage to one of his eyes.

Police are yet to establish the circumstances behind the attack, but have released two CCTV stills of a man they wish to speak to in connection with the incident.

Detective Constable Kathryn Lester from Longsight CID said: “This victim was subjected to a severe and life changing attack, in which he had every bone in his face broken.

“Understandably, he still has a long way to go until he is fully recovered from these injuries.

“We are keen to speak to the man pictured in the CCTV to see if he can assist us further with our inquiries, as he is pictured in the area shortly before the attack happened.

“If you recognise yourself from the image or if you know who this man is, please get in touch with us.

“We are also appealing to anyone who may know where the missing items of clothing are to contact us.

“We are determined to find the person responsible for this attack and bring them to justice for what they have done, as well as provide some much needed answers for this victim and his family.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police at Longsight CID on 0161 856 4245 or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
