A hospital in Greater Manchester has been criticised by a health watchdog over its failure to meet its A&E targets.
Monitor has asked Bolton Royal Hospital to formulate an action plan to reduce waiting times in emergence cases and delays in referrals after its initial report found them to be below standard.
Monitor's A&E target is for 95% of patients to admitted, transferred or discharged within four hours. Bolton Royal Hospital reached 92.5% in December last year.
At the post-referral stage, 90% of patients each month should wait no longer than 18 weeks for treatment. The hospital's was averaging 86% over the last year.
Speaking after Monitor’s Board Committee made its decision, Merav Dover, Compliance Director at Monitor, said: "We need to see more robust action from the Trust Board to make sure that services are run more effectively for patients by ensuring that healthcare targets are met.
"The Trust now has specific actions which it must urgently address and Monitor will be reviewing its progress on a monthly basis. If we need to take further regulatory action then we will do so."
Bolton NHS Foundation Trust vowed to take the regulator's recommendations on board, and is taking the report "very seriously".
