Teenager robbed at knifepoint

Greater Manchester Police are appealing for witnesses after a teenager was robbed at knifepoint in the Sale area.

The 16-year-old had his mobile phone stolen while walking with friends along Firs Way at around 4.20pm on Wednesday 4th April.

A man approached the group and asked them for the time. The victim checked his mobile and provided the information, before walking off towards nearby shops.

Shortly afterwards, he was approached by the same man, who asked him to enter an ally way with him. When the victim refused, he was seized and threatened with a knife.

The mugger demanded his mobile phone, which he took before running off.

Police describe the suspect as a Caucasian in his late teens with green eyes and a stock build.

On the night of the incident, he wore a black peaked hat, a black jacket, black Adidas pants with white stripes and a crucifix attached to what looked like black rosary beads.

Police Constable Alastair Jones from the Volume Crime Team said: “Fortunately no one was hurt but the victim and his friends have understandably been left shaken by their ordeal.

“The robbery took place in broad daylight and we believe there may have been a number of people in the area at the time of the offence.

“The necklace the offender was wearing was distinctive and I would urge anyone who may recognise the man’s description or saw anything suspicious to contact police.”

Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 7552 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
