Wayne Rooney's contract saga has made Manchester United fans see red - even his celebrity followers.
The 24-year-old finally ended weeks of speculation on Friday, pledging his future to the club by agreeing to sign a new five-year contract.
But former X Factor winner and staunch Man Utd fan Shayne Ward has branded the striker "stupid" for messing fans around by threatening to quit Old Trafford.
Manchester-born Shayne said: "It was a stupid decision. I don't even think he actually thought it through himself.
"He obviously needed to take a step back and re-evaluate, but no one man is bigger than Manchester United."
Speaking to Liverpool's Radio City 96.7, the 26-year-old credited manager Alex Ferguson with keeping the hot-headed player at the club.
Considering the Scotsman's future retirement, Shayne added: "It's going to be sad to see him go but he can't go on forever.
"Whoever takes over from him has got big boots to fill. He's done a fantasic job at the club."
When asked by breakfast host Simon Ross about rival Manchester City's attempts to "buy" the Premiership, the singer sneered: "It's going to go wrong.
"It happened to Chelsea when they got all their money.
"They're just going to buy all the best players - strikers, midfielders, defenders - and then none of them will get a game.
"They won't gel because they all want to be that special player every time they step on the field so they're not really going to be a team.
"They're supposed to playing together against a team, but instead they're going to be playing against each other."
