Greenhalghs backs baking for babies in Bolton

An award winning craft bakery is teaming up with two local food lovers to help raise as much money as possible for the special care baby and neonatal unit of Bolton hospital.

Originally intended as a stand alone pop up shop, The Sugar Plum Bakery, which was the brainchild of fundraisers Rachel McGrath and Dawn Foster, is now a fully fledged summer fete dedicated to raising money. Greenhalgh’s is lending support to the cause by supplying products including cakes and pastries as well as helping raise awareness of the event via its social media channels.

David Smart, production director and son of the original owner of Greenhalgh’s said, “We felt that we had to be involved in Dawn and Rachel’s idea, as not only is the cause one that is close to the hearts of many of our staff, but also because the idea itself stems from their individual love of baking, a craft my family fell in love with over fifty years ago.”

Rachel McGrath, one of the event organisers, added, “Dawn and I have been amazed by the generosity of local businesses such as Greenhalgh’s which have got behind the event and given their time and resources in addition to their award winning products. We’re looking forward to the event and to supporting the great work which the special care baby and neonatal unit does. ”

Sugar Plum Bakery is taking place at Spice Valley, Horwich on 14 July 2012 and will run from 11.30 until 16.00 featuring summer fete stalls, cookery demonstrations, bouncy castle, face painting, a fantastic raffle and lots more!
