Manchester's Big Wheel will close down permanently on Sunday 15th April.
The Exchange Square attraction, which opened to the public in 2004, will be dismantled at the end of the week and moved to another city.
Great City Attractions, who maintain the Wheel, were asked to move it to make way for city’s official Olympics viewing spot.
The firm had a request to have it moved to Piccadilly Gardens rejected on the grounds that it would take up a significant amount of space in a key public area.
A new home for the ride is now being sought, with Edinburgh being the likely destination.
The Big Wheel was installed as a temporary Christmas feature in 2004. Due to its popularity, a permanent Wheel was erected May 2007 to operate all year round.
