New stage musical Monkee Business, based around the hits of the hugely popular 60s group The Monkees, will have its world premiere in Manchester.
Following the huge success of other feel-good, singalong-packed shows like Mamma Mia, Monkee Business promises a "madcap Austin Powers-style plot" performed by a cast of 20.
Featuring hits including I'm a Believer, Daydream Believer and Hey Hey We're the Monkees, the show will be launched at the Manchester Opera House next March.
The premiere is part of the Manchester Gets It First scheme, which sees new shows destined for the West End first given a trial run here. Ghost The Musical, based on the Hollywood film starring Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze, premiered in Manchester in March this year, selling 100,000 tickets, before moving to London's theatreland.
After its debut run in Manchester, Monkee Business will tour to Glasgow and Sunderland in April.
The members of the original Monkees line-up are not involved in the project, though it is intended to share the spirit of the 1960s television show which made The Monkees household names. They will be invited to the premier.
The band's own comeback tour earlier this year ended in failure in August, with the remaining gigs cancelled for "business" reasons and because of "internal matters".
