The Royal Television Society (RTS) has today announced the shortlist for its 2012 North West Awards.

This year entries were received across 23 categories based on submissions from individuals, production companies and broadcasters.

Several new awards were included in this year’s line-up, to truly reflect the range and breadth of television production in the region, now that Greater Manchester's Media City has established itself as the home of numerous creative companies, including the BBC.

Red Production Company, one of the North West's biggest drama producers, leads the way with eleven nominations.

"What's tremendous about this shortlist is the rich diversity and growth in the production ecology in the North West is plain to see - from major broadcasters to indies, to new startups," said Alex Connock, Chair of RTS North West.

"Some of the categories have thrown up fascinating challenges between productions from the same stable, which can only make for some thrilling and close-to-home challenges on the night."

The winners of this year’s RTS North West Awards will be announced at a prestigious ceremony in Manchester on Saturday 17th November.

Presented by television personality Eamonn Holmes, the awards are expected to attract the region's biggest on-screen stars.
