Russell Watson to star in Coronation Street musical

Acclaimed tenor Russell Watson is to perform at the world premier of Coronation Street’s live musical event Street of Dreams.

The Salford-born singer, who is the bestselling classical artist in history, will put on a show at the Manchester Arena event on 9th and 10th May.

Watson said: “It’s an incredible privilege to be asked to be a part of something so amazing and unique. Coronation Street was a prominent fixture in the Watson household whilst I was growing up so any opportunity to combine such an iconic brand with exquisite music is one I’d never hesitate in taking on.

"I’m so looking forward to coming home and joining old friends on stage - I doubt there’ll be a dry eye in the house!”

He added: “I’m going to use this as my chance to get a little cameo appearance in the show too - it’ll be my audition! I think I’d make a great love-child of Mike Baldwin!”

Street of Dreams is a live musical tribute to the popular soap opera directed by John Stephenson. A 25-piece orchestra will perform compositions by Trisha Ward, while Karen Bruce and Stephen Mear will choreography.

Kym Marsh and West End star Jodie Prenger will appear in the show, alongside Kevin Kennedy and Brian Capron.

Street of Dreams debuts in Manchester before heading to Dublin, Belfast and Newcastle later in May. Limited tickets for the World Premiere in Manchester are still available at www.mcr-arena.com / 0844 847 8000.
