Sir Derek Jacobi is set to make a cameo in ITV1 soap opera Coronation Street, it has been revealed.
The show's production staff confirmed that the Shakespearian action will appear is an extra during a scene in the Rovers Return pub, but may be difficult to spot.
An inside source said: "We have tried for years to try and sort out a role in the show for Sir Derek but we have never quite managed it.
"We are as big a fan of his work as he is of ours. He is an Equity member, so there was no problem getting him on set. It is highly unlikely viewers would spot him but we hope it made his day."
The The 73-year-old, who was knighted in 1996, is best known for his starring roles in Hamlet, Much Ado About Nothing and Richard III.
He has also appeared in several episodes of Doctor Who as well as the award-winning film The King's Speech.
Other famous faces to have appeared in Coronation Street over the years include Sir Cliff Richard, Sir Ian McKellen, Stephanie Beacham and Robert Vaughn.
