The ManchesterArena has implemented a new venue wide high speed wireless internet network. Working with On-Communications, the specialist business IP Telco, the SMG Europe managed venue officially launched the system at their recent WNBA event.

Making its UK debut at the Manchester venue, the production team from the Women's National Basketball Association were the first to utilise high speed broadband fibre access via wireless connectivity.

With the first phase successfully completed, the ManchesterArena now boasts access to a massive 130 MB of dedicated internet access via resilient connectivity, available both front and back of house.

Andrew Matthews, Director of Technology, Sport Event Solutions Ltd for the WNBA Live Manchester 2011, said: "It was a great benefit to our event operations to have a fast and consistent Wi-Fi service throughout the back of house and marshalling yard areas; it's so much easier than trying to implement something ourselves".

James Allen, Assistant General Manager and Events Director at the ManchesterArena, said: "We are delighted our new network has been lit up and used for the first time. Touring events and productions can now enjoy seamless WiFi access throughout the whole of their working area as part of our ongoing commitment to maintain the ManchesterArena as one of the premier entertainment venues in the world".

Ian Roberts, MD of On-Communications added. "It's a great privilege to have the WNBA as the first organisation to use the new network. Over the coming months we will be launching a range of new services and application solutions at the venue for visiting shows and artists to enhance the visitor experience and provide the latest state-of-the art mobile services".
